The airline was founded as Asian Spirit in 1995 by three people, who contributed 1 million dollar each to build up a Airline Employee Cooperative in which they have invited their friends mostly a former employee of Philippine Airlines employee through a salary-to-equip deal.
The operation started in April 1996 with a two second hand aircraft that serves only one scheduled flights twice a day from Manila to Malay, that serves the fledging resort in Boracay.
And to maximize its jet utilization, the airline has introduced its new routes to Daet, Masbate and Catanduanes. It is regarded as second and third routes by Air Transportation Office.

The cooperative transformed to a corporate set-up with the establishment of Asian Spirit Incorporated in 1997 and it was also the time where its registration on Securities and Exchange Commission. A series of business activities in 2008 gave birth to Zest Air. In March 26 2008, the AMY Holdings Corporation has acquired 99.6 percent of Asian Spirit Incorporated.
