Early History
The airline was founded on March 14, 1945. The airline first operation was started on the third quarter of that year in which they began their operations between Lisbon to Madrid.
The airline was formerly known as Transportes Aereos Portugueses or commonly known as TAP. In 1947 domestic flight services were also opened from Lisbon to Porto.
In 1969 the airline expanded its international flight destination to Santa Maria Island, New York and Boston. However in 1979 the airline was nationalized and became a state owned corporation and they have changed their name to TAP Portugal.
In the early 70’s has began to expand in more destination as well as changing its old aircraft to the new Boeing 747. During the late 90’s TAP Portugal has expanded its fleet changing Boeing 727 to Airbus A319,20 and 21 aircrafts.
Aside from that they have also added some destinations in New Jersey, Newark and Tel Aviv.
