Ghana Airways was an airline company based in Accra, Ghana. The airline main hub was in Kotoka International Airport. However in 2004, the airline operations were placed into liquidation.

Early History
Ghana Airways was founded on July 1958 and started its flight operations also that same month and year, taking over the country based international and domestic flight services of West African Airways Corporation.
In September 1991 the airline discontinued domestic flight services. During the start of 2000, the airline chartered aircraft from the Canadian operator SkyService Airlines as well as MD-11, an aircraft from the US based operator World Airways to execute an operation to North America.
In the last quarter of 2003, one of their aircraft DC-10 had suffered from becoming inoperable due to some maintenance responsibility, and then as a result they have forced to stop a large part of its services.
Then they purchased a two former Hawaiian Airlines DC-10 aircraft. In the second quarter of 2004, Ghana Airways was banned from flying to the United States for some safety reasons.
Then it was lead to stopping its ticket sales. Then as a result the airline was replaced by Ghana International Airlines, a partnership between the government and the private US investors.
