ExpressJet Airlines tried to operate its own point-to-point service at LA/Ontario International Airport but ceased its operation in September 2008. The airline has 274 aircraft that is why it is the 14th largest airline in terms of fleet size.
History of the airline
ExpressJet airline originated from a group of small commuter airlines acquired by Continental airlines but the airline itself was established in 1986 and subsequently began operation the following year.
It operates carrying the Part 121 certificate issued to Britt airways by the Federal Aviation Administration. The airline has over 8,000 employees and operates as subsidiary of ExpressJet Holdings.
It was headquartered in Continental Center I in downtown Houston before it became independent. The Continental decided to reduce ExpressJet airline operation that is why the airline opted to operate independently.
The charter operation of the airline started in December 2006 operating under the Corporate Aviation Division using six aircraft for charter services.
Announcement was made by the airline to open services to 24 cities in the west coast, Midwest and southwest regions of the United States in 2007.
A point-to-point service was started by ExpressJet airlines throughout the USA under its own name in April 2007. ExpressJet CEO James Ream said that the biggest center of operation of the airline is the LA/Ontario International Airport in Ontario, California.
It was in March 2007 when JetBlue airways announced that ExpressJet would operate four of its Embraer 145 jets servicing the JetBlue routes.
On behalf of Delta Air Lines, ExpressJet airlines began service at Los Angeles International airport to Mexico and western ski markets in June 2007 under the Delta Connection banner.
ExpressJet airlines has 244 aircraft in its fleet consisting of 140 Embraer ERJ 145 and 104 Embraer ERJ 145XR. Thirty aircraft operated charter services in Corporate Aviation Division while 214 aircraft operated for Continental Airlines.
However, due to some pertinent reasons ExpressJet airline ended its independent flying and discontinued routes at the Delta Connection hub at Los Angeles International Airport as well as the remaining service on its branded operations.
