Estonian Air replaced the old Soviet planes by leasing two Boeing 737-500’s. Thus, after acquiring two more Fokker 50s, the soviet fleet was entirely replaced. The airline announced to serve Vienna and lease another Boeing 737-500 and Saab 340s.
The Estonian Air Regional was established by Estonian Air to open new destinations from Talinn to Kuressaare, Helsinki, Vilnius and Stockholm.
Because of the strong links between the Scandinavian Airline System and Estonian Air, the latter operates frequent flights to the SAS hubs in Stockholm, Copenhagen and Oslo.
The two companies shared other products and services that include airport lounges and timetabling as well as the frequent flyer program. However, the Estonian air is not a member of the Star Alliance.
According to the Estonian Prime Minister, the Scandinavian Airline System had approach the Estonian government offering to purchase the government share in the airline. However, the said proposal was still under negotiations.
The entry of the airline into the European Union opened both opportunity and competition to the airline. The airline had competed against low-cost airlines from distant bases thus losing some market shares but acquiring the local air market.
On Board services
Just like other airlines, the Estonian air also offers on board services to its customers. Passengers can opt to choose from Premium Class and Travel Class.
