Cheap Comair Flight Tickets

One of the world’s largest regional airlines is Comair. It is a wholly owned subsidiary of Delta Air Lines with over 1 billion dollar of annual revenue. The airline is considered as a major airline carrier despite of having few seats in the aircraft.

Passenger services to large number of destinations in USA, Mexico, Bahamas and Canada is being served under the brand name Delta Connection. Comair opened additional crew base and hub city at New York’s JFK airport in late 2006.

However, the airline manifests the lowest percentage of on time flights of all major United States carriers.  The cause of the delayed flights is due to the poor staffing, poor terminal and aircraft ramp layout of JFK airport. Such result made Comair’s rating in the FAA listing to dropped.

Crew bases of Comair in Orlando Florida and Greensboro, North Carolina were closed down in 2007. Chautauqua Airlines, a subsidiary of Republic Airways Holdings and Atlantic Southeast airlines, a subsidiary of Skywest, Inc., replaced Comair’s services in these destinations. In 2008, the parent company of Comair Delta Airlines announced to reduce for about 4.5% of its domestic capacity.

Patrick Sowers established Comair in March 1977 along with Robert Tranter, David Mueller and his father Raymond Sowers in Cincinnati. The airline started its scheduled services using two aircraft of Piper Navajo.

It became a public company in July 1981 under its parent company Comair Holdings. Delta airlines acquired the 20 percent Comair stock and eventually the full ownership of the airline that cost over 2 billion dollars in October 1999.

Delta announced the operation of 14 CRJ-900 aircraft under the Comair as part of the program initiated by Delta Connections. These aircrafts are replacement for the 14 CRJ-100 aircraft that commonly consist the Comair fleet. Delta Connections made an announcement about the ground handling for Comair, Compass Airlines and Mesaba.

Although the three airlines were combined, they still have individual operations. However, the new company that is the Regional Handling Services will handle beginning the third quarter of 2009, everything from ticketing to baggage handling. The merging of the three airlines resulted to reduction of workforce that largely comes from Comair.
