Cheap China Eastern Airlines Flight Tickets

China Eastern Airlines is the major Chinese airline based in Shanghai, People’s Republic of China and operates domestic, regional and international routes. Shanghai Pudong International Airport is its main base and Shanghai Hongqiao Internatonal Airport as its hub. Skytrax gave a three-star rating to China Eastern Airlines. The airline does not belong to any airline alliance that is why the Chinese government is planning to merge with Shanghai Airlines.

History of the airlines

Through the CAAC Huadong Administration, the airline was established on June 25, 1988. The airline became the country’s first airline to offer share in the international market and took over the loss-making of the China General Aviation.  In 2003, the China Northwest Airlines and China Yunnan Airlines merged into China Eastern Airlines.  The Chinese government partially owned the airline and sold the other part of stake to foreign investors. In 2007 after the approval of the State Council of China, China Eastern Airlines finally sold its 24% stake to Singapore airlines and Temasek Holdings. Some other airline companies were interested to buy stake from the China Eastern Airline that makes it complicating to enter the alliance.

Routes and destinations

The airline has a dominant presence on routes in North America, Europe, Australia and Asia. China Eastern Airline terminated the unprofitable route Shanghai-Brussels-Madrid in 2004, however on the same year the Shanghai-Melbourne route was created. In 2007, the longest non-stop route for the airline began its operation from shanghai to New York. In its effort to expand the services to the passengers, the airline adds frequencies to its route and added more other destinations.
