Airlines history
Cebu Pacific was established in 1988 as Cebu Air but started its operation in March 1996 when the JG Summit Holdings acquired it. The airline started its operation with 24 domestic flights daily in Metro Manila, Davao City and Metro Cebu. The operation further grows to about 80 flights daily serving 18 different domestic destinations.
Cebu Pacific was granted rights to operate international flight in 2000. Among the countries that will be going to serve by the airline include Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, Hong Kong, South Korea and Guam. A twice-daily international flights service to Hong Kong was launched on November 2001. However, the Manila to Seoul flights was suspended due to the effect of SARS.
Cebu Pacific is the first low-cost airline to serve the Cebu to Singapore direct flight. After PAL had terminated its service, Cebu Pacific is now the only Philippine carrier serving the Cebu-Singapore route as well as Cebu-Hong Kong route. Due to the increasing number of passenger, the airline announced its increase of flight frequency to Hong Kong and Singapore. Several Airbus aircraft was acquired by Cebu Pacific to transport the increasing number of passengers.
Airline destinations and fleet
Cebu Pacific flies to 15 international destinations in 10 countries and 27 domestic destinations. New domestic routes were launched by the airline in Davao with three times weekly scheduled flights to Misamis Oriental and Cagayan de Oro. While in Manila, three times weekly scheduled services from Manila to Cauayan City, Isabela and four times weekly from Manila to Ozamiz City.
Cebu Pacific fleet is composed of 29 aircraft composed of ATR 72-500s and Airbus A320s. SIA Engineering Company together with Cebu Pacific had signed a joint venture agreement authorizing the former to do the maintenance of the aircraft.
