Early History
Bangkok Airways was established as Sahakol Air in 1968, an airline that operates an air-taxi services which is under contract from an American construction company OICC, USOM and several organizations that are engaged in natural gas and oil exploration in the Gulf of Thailand.
It began its first scheduled services in the late 80’s becoming the country’s first privately owned domestic airline. In 1989 the airline re-branded its name as Bangkok Airways.

In the mid 90’s Bangkok Airways also opens its second airport at Sukhothai Province followed by the opening of its opening of the third airport in Trat Province in the year 2003.
Bangkok Airways has made its first venture into jet aircraft in 2000, when they started up adding Boeing 717’s to its fleet. The airline plans to order a large aircraft as a part of their dream to expand their fleet.
They wanted to add a wide jet to serve longer haul destinations in India, Japan and London. In 2005 the airline had announce that they had decided to negotiate 6 airbuses (A 350-800) a 258-seat configuration that will be delivered in 2013.
