However, because of the continuing poor financial performance the stake of Iberia decreased and subsequently transferred to a Spanish state holding company until American Airlines acquired a 10% stake in Interinvest.
The poor financial operation was triggered by the allegation of corruption made by the Iberia and Spanish firm that makes the airline in a terminal crisis. Pilot’s strike occurred in 2005 but struck a deal after nine days of negotiations. After acquiring the 99.4% of the share capital, the Argentine government took back in state control of the airline.
